Artist Statement: - From Challenge VI - Roots - Insights & Inspirations in Contemporary Turned Objects. As most ideas come from nature, the idea for this piece is no exception. Orpheus, in Greek mythology, was a musician whose skill on the lyre had a magical effect on beasts and even rocks and trees. My impression was to use foliage on the piece to represent the gaiety of the music. My intent was to convey a sense of rhythm and celebration as in Marti Gras.
